I’ve already been dropping hints about Mother’s Day to my husband – best to start early. A card, a bunch of tulips or maybe even poached eggs in bed would be very welcome on Sunday 30th March (hint #14). Littlewoods.com are going much further than that with their treating – as I found out last week when I was invited to a special ‘Talented Mums’ Mother’s Day event hosted by the flawless Myleene Klass.
Apparently mothers carry out around 19 jobs a day – I can well believe it. My days are all about multi-tasking – cramming in as many things as possible before collapsing at about 10pm at the latest. But last week I was lucky enough to be treated to a bit of after-work pampering courtesy of Littlewoods, with products by Babyliss, including the fab Perfect Curl (demonstrated by some people I know from the brilliant Webster Whiteman salon), skincare by Murad and Nails Inc Nails.
It was good to see the new Littlewoods collection – I can’t say I spend my days shopping for myself now, sadly, but I did spot some great jumpers and dresses and they had some lovely outfits for children and particularly girls. The Myleene Klass range was interesting – I spied some lovely teadresses and floaty maxis. The lady herself took me through the rail and told me about the cheats in each one so mums can feel confident in their clothes – drapy fabrics, clever cuts and hidden straps to keep everything looking smooth and lovely for the school run or even a dinner out (hint #15). Not that it looked like Myleene needed it – but she assured me she has her flaws!
She was very bubbly and friendly and confided that she suffers the same mum guilt we all do – FaceTime is important with her busy schedule. As is running around helping her children – she was making last minute pancakes for her daughter’s class that very morning. Which brings us onto the Littlewoods Talented Mums competition, just launched, which is all about celebrating the ‘secret skills’ of mothers up and down the land, and offering us the chance to star in a special advert to air this month.
To take part, you need to submit a short video at www.littlewoods.com/talent, either showing or describing your ‘weird, wonderful or just plain brilliant talents, from karate to pilates, painting to baking’. Children can play a part as well, talking about the talents of their own mums. As well as starring in the advert, the main mum will win a luxury weekend in London for herself and a friend, as well as £250 to spend with Littlewoods.com. There are also 10 prizes from their Mother’s Day collection each week to mums who take part, or are nominated in the best videos. Judges are Myleene and Coleen Rooney. 100 prizes will also be sent at random to participants on Mother’s Day to make the day extra special.
In true talent show fashion, there are also Talented Mums scouts, who have been to Manchester and will be in Brighton (on 11th March) and Birmingham (on 12th March) to film in each city. So look out on a high street near you and good luck!
We got inspired by a range of celeb videos from people with Littlewoods.com ranges – as well as Myleene and Coleen there was Mark Wright, Gail Porter, Natasha Hamilton and Luke Campbell. And the glass or two of bubbly also helped to get my words flowing as I nominated my own mum for her fantastic history skills (although she is multi-talented and I could have chosen a number of things!) And the evening was rounded off by a few more drinks (hic) with fellow mum bloggers Katy from Modern Mummy, Ruth from Rock’n’Roller Baby, Rachel from Confessions Of A Stay At Home Mum and Bonita from Mama’s VIB – I hope you ladies all get the treats you deserve on 30th March!
To submit a video upload to www.littlewoods.com/talent or send via Twitter using @Littlewoods and #TalentedMums. Alternatively you can email your entry to email@example.com by March 26th.
