Sunscreen for the whole family: Murad’s MuraSol

Murad MuraSol RangeIt’s considerably sunnier today than it was a couple of weeks ago when I spent an evening with the lovely team at Murad and Jeff Murad, Dr Murad’s son and one of the top people in their product development team. They were launching their new sun balm, Murad Essential-C Sun Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++ as well as highlighting their entire MuraSol range.

I’ve been a Murad fan for a while and have been using (and loving) their facial oil ever since I met Sarah from Murad at this event. I’ve also had some Murad treatments in London (back in the child-free days). So I expected an interesting evening but also quite an adult one.

What I was surprised to hear is that the Murad sunscreen range can actually be used for the whole family. In fact, Dr Jeff said that his niece and nephew use the products all the time – which was good to know (although I would probably still use specific baby products for under 1s).

The sun products aren’t cheap but I think they’re reasonable for a premium range. A quick browse of Boots’ shelves will show you that in fact no sunscreens – even own brands – actually are. So I’ve been using the Sun Balm a little with Scrip as the days get brighter and the sun gets stronger (it glides on quickly and easily), as well as the Essential-C Day Moisturiser with SPF 30 for me.

It was an info-packed evening with lots of questions for the Murad team. Here are just 4 things I thought were particularly interesting about MuraSol:

  1. As well as giving maximum protection against UVA (ageing) rays and UVB (burning) rays, the new Sun Balm uses a new formula called MuraSol™ Antioxidant Defense which actually penetrate the skin’s top layers to create a protective barrier of free radical neutralisers. Normal sunscreens don’t do this. These neutralisers release slowly over time, helping protect skin from free radical damage.
  2. The products might look clinical but they also contain some of your 5 a day*. Murad have tested a lot of natural ingredients to find the most effective so there’s Broccoli Extract to stimulate skin’s natural defence against UV damage and Tangerine Butter to lock in moisture and leave skin silky smooth in the Sun Balm.
  3. Meanwhile, in the sunscreen range Pomegranate Extract keeps skin soft and supple; Hyaluronic Acid and plant lipids ensure long-lasting hydration and patented Skincare Repair System protects elasticity to maintain skin firmness.
  4. All the sun products have Antioxidant Vitamins A, C and E to defend and protect skin’s health.

Remember, we can all still burn through the clouds so don’t forget to pop on some sunscreen before you leave the house.

*I don’t think this really counts towards your daily fruit and veg quota (unfortunately).
