Win a Tommee Tippee Steamer Blender with #weantogether

Baby Food Steamer BlenderLike learning to walk and potty training, weaning is an all-consuming stage (no pun intended). I think we probably left it too late with Scrip, as she devoured her first baby rice in front of us in a matter of seconds at 5 and a half months, and possibly started too early with D who instantly spat the spoon out.

I remember doing buggy fit in Holland Park in London (those hazy days!) and some of the class would take about all-in-one weaning solutions and I would listen enviously. It felt like something that might make my weaning world – filled with mushy butternut squash, pureed parsnip and sieved carrot – a lot easier. But I never went beyond my basic weaning kit.

I still keep an eye out for weaning recipes (here’s my weaning Pinterest board which was great inspiration for me and which I still add to) and I have friends who are going through all the messy stages of it at the moment.

Tommee Tippee has joined up with child nutritionist, Charlotte Stirling-Reed, for #WeanTogether which is encouraging parents to come up with simple and delicious new fruit and veg recipes. I like the tongue-in-cheek tone, which gives weaning recipes a twist with hipster foodie titles, such as Deconstructed Autumn Fruit Crumble (aka pear and blueberries).

But the best thing is that, through Tommee Tippee, I’m offering the chance to win a brand new Steamer Blender (worth £106.99). Just use the Rafflecopter link below.

Trying out Heavenly Organics Coconut Squishies

Coconut SquishiesThese should be called Coconut Smoothies according to Scrip, who now asks for one as soon as she catches sight of them. I’m pleased to say my 6 month old enjoys them just as much. They’re the latest baby feeding range from Heavenly Organics – I wrote about their Wafer Wisps last year which were also a crowd pleaser.

These are pouches – a very familiar and handy format for parents – containing a blend of coconut milk, organic fruit, a bit of lemon juice and added calcium. Each pack provides one portion of the famous ‘five a day’.

It’s interesting to see coconut milk in children’s food – it’s certainly been popular with adults over the last few years. It’s rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals and is lactose free, so good for allergies or intolerances. And I have to admit, I had a try and thought the banana, apple and strawberry in particular was pretty tasty – shades of a virgin pina colada!

I also like its consistency – not too runny and a good first food. So another pouch to add to the weaning repertoire. I do promise I’ll get round to making my own delicious weaning foods soon…

Heavenly Coconut Squishies are now available from Ocado at £3.00 for a pack of four 90g pouches and £1.00 for an individual 90g pouch. They come in two flavours:

* Banana, apple, mango – and coconut milk
* Banana, apple, strawberry – and coconut milk

Shauna Blair, a mum of three and a lover of organic food, created the Heavenly range in response to the limited range of healthy, organic baby food in her native Northern Ireland. Her children also have allergies so her range bears this in mind.

Gold standard – helping stains to Vanish

Vanish Gold Review

Apart from raising incredible children you’d do anything for, how much does parenthood actually look like you imagined it would? Cosy bedtime stories all snuggled up in PJs and slippers or re-reading the same book for the 500th time followed by an argument over brushing teeth? Fun, healthy meals as a family around the table or a cacophony of fussing over hidden veg and why pudding can’t be served as a first course? Drawers full of crisp Mini Boden clothes or another machine load full of tomato ketchup and blackcurrant stains?

With a weaning 20 week old and an enthusiastic 3 year old, washing is a daily activity and stubborn clothes stains are the hallmark of each load. I already used Vanish stain remover after my mum recommended it (surely we were all very clean, unmessy children?..) but when I was offered Gold to trial I was keen to give it a go. Anything to shift the stains and make the loads go quicker.

Promising their best ever stain removal, I tried the Gold Gel, Capsules, Pre-Treat Spray and Power Gel (not all at once). The quickest to use are the capsules, which you just pop in each wash, and they seemed to cope pretty well with everyday stains. But I found the Pre-Treat Power Gel the most failsafe, working in just 30 seconds once you’ve sprayed onto an area and getting all new stains out first time. I did find that older stains were more difficult to shift using any of the products.

So, I’ve now found something else to go on my growing online shopping list. Even with the new name, Vanish Gold may not be the sexiest product out there but it’s certainly coming in pretty handy at the moment.

Thank you Vanish. I tried Vanish Gold Oxi Action Gel, Vanish Power Shot Gel Capsules, Vanish Oxi Action Pre-treat Spray and Vanish Gold Pre-Treat Power Gel.

More info and a good stain solver on the Vanish site.

New Wafer Wisps from Heavenly – organic snacks for babies and children

Pushchairs, car seats, nappies, bottles – it feels like everything has moved on in the three years since Scrip was born. We’re a way off thinking about baby food for little D yet but I’ve no doubt there will be a whole lot of new options alongside what were Scrip’s firm favourites.

When I was weaning Scrip I started off playing it very safe with baby rice and mashed banana at five and half months. Then an NCT friend handed my little one a rice cake one grizzly lunch time and everything changed. She gobbled it up (or gummed it up), and from then on we moved on to baby crisps, crackers, toast, sandwiches, baby biscuits and lots more rice cakes. She loved finger food and mastered the art of holding and eating it pretty quickly.

So when Heavenly offered their new Wafer Wisps for a trial, I was keen to say yes and start exploring what baby food was now out there. The Heavenly range is made up of healthy snacks for babies and children. Currently well known in Northen Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, it was founded by Shauna McCarney-Blair who wanted to give her child healthy, organic food that was suitable for allergy sufferers.

The Wafer Wisps have just launched in the UK via Ocado and come in two flavours – “Pumpkin & Banana”, and “Spinach, Apple & Kale”. Suitable for 6 months+, they are designed to be super healthy – made from organic fruit and veg, blended together with ancient grains like buckwheat.

We all tried them – even me (a hungry breastfeeding mum!) Scrip liked them, although she is used to crackers with something now so we topped with some Philadelphia. My friend’s eight month old enjoyed them and my friend was pleased they were relatively mess free and dissolved in the mouth, with no sticky leftovers. And although I found the mixture of savoury and sweet a bit unusual, they tasted natural to me and not at all artificial.

So there’s a Heavenly thumbs up all round and one to remember when I’m weaning this very hungry baby in a few months.

Wafer Wisps are £2.19 per box
